Project: Independence Season 2
Casting: Background Performers
Age Range: 6–75 years
Location: Winnipeg and surrounding areas

ROLE DESCRIPTION:
We are looking for both male and female background performers to portray 1870s prairie pioneer types in this period drama. We are seeking all ethnicities and a wide variety of authentic looks, including:

  • Farmers & Homesteaders
  • Pioneer Wives & Families
  • Children & Grandparents
  • Townsfolk & Community Members
  • Men with or without facial hair. Beards and mustaches are a plus!
  • Women with long, natural hair colours

HAIR/LOOK NOTES:

  • Natural hair colours preferred
  • Do not cut or dramatically alter your hair if applying

PHOTO REQUIREMENTS:

  • Photos must be taken the same day you apply
  • Clear photos only
  • No hats or sunglasses
  • Hair down and visible
  • Natural light preferred if possible
  • Please have someone else take the photos

IMPORTANT:
When filling out the casting form online, please make sure to complete all requested sizing information. This period series will require all extras to attend a costume fitting, and we will need to determine if applicants fit costumes from stock.

  • No visible modern tattoos or piercings unless they can be covered
  • Comfortable in period wardrobe and working outdoors is required
  • Own transportation is helpful

SHOOT DATES:
June – October 2026 (Filming Monday – Friday)

COMMITMENT:

  • 1–2 days per week potentially and/or here and there throughout the season
  • We will provide ample notice (typically 1 week or more) before bookings
  • Flexible availability is very helpful

HOURS:

  • Adults must be available for up to 10–12 hour filming days
  • Age 11 and under: Up to 8 hours maximum, no overtime
  • Age 12–15: Up to 10 hours maximum
  • Minors must be accompanied by a parent/guardian/chaperone
  • All selected performers must attend a paid costume fitting

RATE OF PAY:

  • Non-Union rate: $16/hr
  • Overtime rate: $24/hr after 8 hours
  • Union rate per ACTRA IPA
  • Meals provided on set
